A
New Club in Town!
The big news that everyone should be excited about is that the
German Longhaired Pointer Club of North America is officially a
club! In November of 2007, founding members got things
rolling with a new website, bylaws, and plans for a whole lot
more. Press releases have been sent to numerous outdoor media outlets to announce our arrival.
Already, a few articles have appeared. So
don't be surprised if you see a large advertisement soon in GunDog
Magazine or the Pointing Dog Journal about the birth of our new
breed club! Please help us spread the news by telling your
fellow hunting enthusiasts about the German Longhaired Pointer Club
of North America. |

2008
GLPCNA Meeting
The GLPCNA's first annual meeting will be held at the Regional
Wyoming Game and Fish Department Office in Casper,
Wyoming
on Saturday, September 27, 2008. As of now, a one-day
meeting is scheduled, but if needed, we can also meet on
Sunday, September 28. The agenda will include a breed show
and breed show judge training, discussion of testing standards,
bylaws, kennel names, breeding committee (including election of
members to this committee), and officer reports. Several
presentations will also be included: hip displaysia, 2008 GL
breed show in Germany
and GL's in Scandinavia
. Informal dinners and gatherings will be held at the
Wichers' home on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Food will be
provided, but please bring your own beverages.
Sage grouse, blue grouse, chukar and Hungarian partridge hunting
will be available. Sage grouse season will be Sept 20-30, 2
birds/day, 4 in possession. Sage grouse numbers and hunting
should be very good to excellent. Blue grouse season will be Sept
1 - November 30, but numbers have been low in the Casper
area the past few years and hunting likely will be poor to fair.
Huns and chukars open Oct 1 and good to very good hunting should
be available 2.5 hours northwest of Casper
near Thermopolis. We will either be able to direct people to
good hunting areas or personally show them. Tentative plans
are to hunt sage grouse Sept 28-30, then move to the dog-friendly
Holiday Inn in Thermopolis (home of the world's largest mineral
hot springs - bring your bathing suit!) on Sept 30 for partridge
hunting Oct 1 and 2. Detailed viewing information for
Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks (5 hours from Casper) are available if anyone is interested (they are fantastic in
late September, early October).
If anyone wants to hunt grouse prior to the meeting, information
can be provided. A list of dog-friendly motels in Casper
will be provided as well as visitor information guides. There
are several very good museums in Casper
(geology, history, art, others), a new Sportsman's Warehouse and
good restaurants. World class rainbow trout fishing is
available in the North Platte River just above Casper
and fishing outfitter information will also be provided. Outstanding,
up close viewing/photography opportunities for mule deer and
antelope will be available on the outskirts of Casper.

more information on the 2008 GLPCNA Meeting as well as other
opportunities in and around the Casper, Wyoming area, please visit
